Out and about
Open the 🗺️ map from anywhere. Going takes half an hour, home waits as you left it, and you can bring anyone from the house or ask friends to meet you there. A getaway costs a cabin hire fee.
How going out works
Every place has its own opening hours and its own crowd: a few strangers picked fresh each day, plus regulars you've met before. Chat to a stranger and they become someone you know. You come home when you choose, when the place shuts, or when work or school is due.
Friends ring to ask you out, you can ask up to three people to meet you, and from one place you can head straight on to the next with the same company.
Riverside Park
6 am to 10 pm
Benches, swings, chess, a fishing pond and a barbecue. Anyone might be there.
Iron & Oak Gym
6 am to 10 pm
Treadmills, mats and showers. Active people work out here.
Willow Street Library
9 am to 8 pm
Shelves of books, desks to study at and a chess table. Quiet.
The Blue Note Lounge
4 pm to 11 pm
A bar, a jukebox and sofas. Open in the evening, with lots of chat.
Club Neon
7 pm to midnight
A dance floor, a row of jukeboxes and a bar. Open late, for dancing and meeting people.
Harbour Gallery
10 am to 6 pm
Paintings, sculptures and easels to try your hand. Inspiring and quiet.
The Corner Bistro
11 am to 11 pm
Candlelit tables, a waiter at the door and a chef in the kitchen. Good for a date or dinner with friends.
Bayside Lido
7 am to 9 pm
Two pools, showers and a barbecue on the grass. Busy on summer days.
Starlight Lanes
10 am to midnight
Three lanes, a jukebox and an arcade machine. Hire shoes at the counter and bowl a few frames with friends.
Willow Springs Spa
9 am to 9 pm
Book a massage, sweat in the sauna, soak in the hot tub and unwind with yoga and a calming tea.
The Daily Grind Café
7 am to 7 pm
Coffee and pastries at the counter, tables to linger at, armchairs and a shelf of books. Opens early.
Driftwood Bay
6 am to 9 pm
Sand and sea: swim, fish, look for shells, build a sandcastle or sunbathe under an umbrella, and dance round the beach fire as the sun goes down. Best on a summer's day.
Pine Lake Retreat
6 am to midnight · $120 a trip
A log cabin by a lake in the pines: fish from the jetty, grill on the deck, soak in the hot tub and sit round the fire pit. Cabin hire is $120 a trip.
Frostpeak Mountain
7 am to 10 pm · $40 a trip
Snow all year up here: ski, snowboard or sled down the slope, soak in the steaming hot spring, and warm up by the lodge fire with a hot cocoa. A day's lift pass is $40.
Friends' homes
8 am to 11 pm
Go round to anyone you're friendly with, if they're free. A rental, a house or a cottage, the same each visit.
